Sable Annie (Vann) Reynolds, 92, died on July 26, 2022 at AdventHealth Rollins Brook hospital in Lampasas.
A memorial service will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel at 10 a.m. July 30, with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Smith Cemetery in Kempner.
Sable was born on Nov. 6, 1929 in Kempner to Douglas McRoy and Mamie Frances (Havins) Vann. She grew up in Kempner and graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1947.
After high school, she attended Jackson Business College in Lampasas and began working for Southwestern Bell as a phone operator. She held numerous jobs throughout her career to include Producer’s Produce, Terry Lynn Sewing Factory, school lunchrooms, Klose Dairy, Clyde Castleberry Real Estate, and was a salesperson for Tupperware and Avon. She was an Avon representative for more than 40 years and eventually earned presidential awards from Avon’s Honor Society.
A major back surgery started the beginning of her at-home career. She kept a daycare and raised generations of children who called her “Mamaw.”
Once her own children were grown, Sable became a founding member of the Lampasas Singles Club where she made lifelong friends.
She also was a member of the Lampasas County Historical Commission and loved anything to do with history and ancestry. She spent many hours on the Vann family history and was a matriarch of the annual Vann reunion.
Sable had a love for cooking and baking. She baked cakes and catered weddings for many years.
Sable married Eugene Groves in 1947 in Mason. They had three children: J.D., Robert and Janice Groves. She later married James Jackson Reynolds in 1954 in Lampasas, and they had two children: Jackie and Susan Reynolds.
Sable is survived by son Robert Groves (Darla); daughters Janice Garner (Eddie) and Susan (David) Millican; a brother, Robert Vann of Abilene; grandchildren Tracy Taylor (John), Craig Groves (Brandy), Brent Groves (Jenny), Tonya Phillips (Heath), Courtney Groves, Amy Kirkpatrick (Jason), Wayne Groves (Amber), Jason Garner (Amy), Lacy Garner, Tyler Garner (Randy), Vann Millican and Bailey Millican; greatgrandchildren Lauren January, Blake January, Alicia Morton, Carlie Groves, Kyndle Groves, Cora Groves, Jewel Groves, Jaden Phillips, Hunter Ramsey, Holton Ramsey, Laetyn Groves, Hudson Groves, Karsyn Groves, Emilee Garner, Philip Garner and Brooke Dworsky; and a great-great grandchild, Raife Morton.
Sable was preceded in death by her husband Jack; sons J.D. Groves and Jackie Reynolds; and great-grandson Rush Kirkpatrick.
