Two Belton men were transported – one by aircraft – for medical treatment after a pickup truck rolled over Saturday on U.S. Highway 190.

The crash occurred east of Lampasas at 5:25 p.m.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Bryan Washko gave the following report.

A 31-year-old man was driving west on U.S. 190 in a 1999 Ford F-250. The investigating DPS trooper stated that the pickup driver said he fell asleep behind the wheel and left the roadway. The driver awoke and overcorrected.

The pickup rolled down an embankment, coming to rest on its cab. A 42-year-old male passenger was pinned within the cab of the truck.

The passenger was airlifted and transported to the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center emergency department in Temple for treatment of what Washko called “incapacitating injuries.”

The driver was transported to AdventHealth Rollins Brook for treatment of “non-incapacitating injuries,” the DPS sergeant said.

“Texas DPS wants to remind drivers [of] the dangers of driving while fatigued,” Washko said. “Driving while fatigued can greatly increase the chances of being seriously injured in a crash. Rotating drivers or taking frequent breaks when driving long distances can make for a safer trip.”
