Blas Cisneros, 87, of Lampasas, died peacefully at his home on July 25, 2026.
Blas was born on Feb. 3, 1939, to Jesus and Julia Cisneros in Crystal City, Texas. When he was 3, his family moved to Lampasas, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was the third of six children.
On April 10, 1961, he married Mary Hernandez. Together they built a life in Lampasas and raised three sons: Daniel, Samuel and Michael “Paco.”
During his 30-year teaching career in Lampasas, Blas influenced hundreds of students through his mechanical engine classes. Known for his high expectations, he taught far more than engine repair. He instilled discipline, respect, responsibility and the value of hard work. Former students often spoke of lessons they carried with them long after leaving his classroom, and many credited him with inspiring careers in the skilled trades. Even years after retirement, former students and friends brought him lawnmowers, tillers and small engines to repair, a testament to the respect he earned throughout his community.
Outside the classroom, Blas had a lifelong love of golf. He coached the Lampasas High School golf team, competed in countless tournaments and was admired for both his skill and sportsmanship.
Blas is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mary; sons Daniel (Yolanda) Cisneros, Samuel Cisneros and Michael “Paco” Cisneros; sisters Mary Jane and Gloria; eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends.
Rosary will be recited at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel on July 28 at 6:30 p.m., with visitation to follow until 8:30 p.m.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on July 29 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
