William Aaron “W.A.” Nuckles, 90, of Lampasas, died on March 17, 2026 at home.
He was Rollins Brook Hospital’s third baby, born on April 19, 1935, in Lampasas to Lucille Champion Nuckles and Joseph Aaron Nuckles.
W.A. grew up in the Unity Community and attended Unity School. He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1954. He played trombone for the Fighting Texas Aggie Band for one year.
He married Doris Krause Nuckles on April 10, 1976.
W.A. had his pilot’s license and did crop dusting, then started his career as a crane operator shortly after and did that until his retirement.
He loved farming and ranching, playing dominoes, eating at Country Kitchen and watching his grandsons play basketball. He was known for his overalls, his welding cap and stubbornness.
Survivors include his wife of almost 50 years, Doris Nuckles; son, Aaron Nuckles and wife Amanda; grandchildren Aidan and Ayson Nuckles; his sister, Mary Casbeer; nephew Steve Nuckles and numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his son Lindon Nuckles; and his siblings Paul, Pauline, James and Reuben Nuckles.
Visitation will be held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel on March 20 from 5-7 p.m.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on March 21 at School Creek Baptist Church, with interment to follow at School Creek Cemetery.
The family requested donations be made in W.A.’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
