Local family honored by Daughters of the Republic of Texas

Earlier this month, the Oran Milo Roberts chapter Daughters of the Republic of Texas held a program hosted by Jani Edwards that highlighted her daughter, Caety Edwards, and her love for Texas.

Caety Edwards is the late daughter of Jani and Mickey Edwards of Lampasas.

The DRT had a headstone marking of Caety Edwards’ grave in Oak Hill Cemetery on which they placed her Daughters of the Republic of Texas Medallion. The ceremony was held March 2, Texas Independence Day, at the Hostess House and included stories about Caety, according to member Judy Smith.

OMR member Shirley Stringer worked on the daughter’s papers to complete her membership into DRT after she was killed in a vehicle accident in 2019. Caety was awarded membership posthumously, Smith said.

Those who knew Caety attest that she was a Badger through and through, as she followed Badger sports and other school activities.

After her death, a scholarship was established in her name, and more than 50 $500 scholarships have been given to Lampasas High School students in memory of Caety Edwards.
