Services set Feb. 14 for Buddy Moore

Visitation will be held Feb. 13 from 5-7 p.m. with the family of James C. “Buddy” Moore at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel. Moore died Feb. 9, 2026 at the age of 87.

Funeral services will be Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. at First Street Church of Christ, with interment to follow at Nix Cemetery.

Moore was a longtime manager of the Texas Farm Bureau Insurance office in Lampasas.

He was born Jan. 30, 1939 in Jollyville to Otto and Ernestine Moore.

Moore grew up in Round Rock, where he attended school and played football and ran track at Round Rock High School. After graduation, he attended Abilene Christian and Tarleton State before graduating from what was then Southwest Texas State University.

While in college, he met and married Sharon Machen.

After college, the couple moved to Rockdale where he worked for Wayne Feed. A year later they moved to Madisonville, where Moore became a sales representative for Purina Feed. After a brief stint of coaching at Lometa High School, Moore returned to work with Purina Feed in Columbus.

In 1971, the family moved to Lampasas, where Moore began his career with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance. He was manager of the local agency for more than 20 years before his retirement in 1995. During his tenure, the Lampasas agency often placed among the top 10 in the state. His wife also worked for Farm Bureau, where she was office secretary for 18 years.

Moore was a longtime member of First Street Church of Christ.

He had a love for Badger football and was proud of being a season ticketholder for 42 years. He also loved hunting and fishing, working in his garden, chipping flint, checking on his cows at Nix, raising show pigs, and cheering on Texas Longhorn football.

He was preceded in death by infant sons Christy Carrol and James Carrol Jr.; his brothers-in-law Doyle Thomas, Roland Corbin and Alfred Machen; and his sister-in-law, Avilla Corbin.

Moore is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sharon Moore; daughters Sherri Cowan and husband Joe, Kerri Latham and husband David, Kim Cummings and husband Jimmie, and Teena Smith and husband Garry; grandchildren Maci Cowan, Blain Latham and wife Taylor, Braden Latham and wife Caisi, Kyla Brown and husband Tanner, Kayli Brantley, Kelsi Cummings and Hernan Eufracio, Kenli Cummings, Brodie Smith and Blake Smith; greatgrandchildren Hayes Latham and Jay Latham (arriving soon), Fynlee, Waden, Weston and Konlee Brown, Hernan Eufracio Jr., Burks Brantley and Jett Smith; siblings Wanda Thomas, and Bobby Moore and wife Teresa; sisterin-law Bobbye Machen; brother-in-law, Clifford Machen and Darlene Ward; and numerous nieces, nephews and others.
