UPDATE: Due to an incoming winter storm and cold, cloudy conditions expected on Saturday, the Lampasas Friends of the Night Sky Star Party planned for this weekend has been canceled.
The Star Party has been rescheduled for Feb. 7 at 6 p.m. at Stoneledge Winery.
Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky will celebrate the new year and evening skies with a Star Party at Stoneledge Winery on Saturday from 6-10 p.m.
Amateur astronomers will have telescopes aimed at the stars and planets for those in attendance.
Stoneledge Winery will host the event, and will wine service and food will be available. Stoneledge is located at 518 County Road 1403, off FM 580 West.
Lampasas County Friends of the Night Sky recently elected Pam Butler as the new chairperson. Several subcommittees have been formed and include technical, spokesperson/s, city and county lead, utilities, business, publicity, social media, finance and regulations resource.
The night sky committee is a volunteer group dedicated to helping reduce light pollution and preserve the dark skies in the heart of Texas for future generations.
Friends of the Night Sky is a subcommittee of Vision Lampasas, a nonprofit group motivated to enhance the aesthetic, social, cultural and economic welfare of Lampasas.
The Friends group’s largest event is the Stars at Night. This free annual family event is scheduled for March 7 at Campbell Park in Lampasas. The event will provide conservation exhibits and presentations, children’s activities, stargazing and a night tour of Cooper Spring Nature Park to discover the sights and sounds of nature at night.
