Mike Wayne Kriegel, BSCE., RPLS, PE, of Lampasas died peacefully on Sept. 23, 2025 at the age of 67.
He was born on July 24, 1958, to Martin John and Bessie Lee Kriegel in Kenedy.
He lived in New Braunfels, where he started first grade. The family moved to Irving, where Mike finished first grade through freshman year at Nimitz High School.
He and his family then moved to Cypress, where he graduated from Cy-Fair High School in 1976. After high school, he attended Texas A&M University and received a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering in 1980.
Mike was passionate about surveying and became a Registered Professional Land Surveyor in 1985. He worked at Jones & Carter, where he met Shirley. Mike also worked as a civil engineer on Fort Hood.
After leaving Fort Hood, he decided to branch out and work for himself. His crew consisted of Darryl Lawson and his brotherin-law, Mike Painter. Sometimes his wife Shirley would help with the fieldwork, occasionally bringing the girls out, too.
In 1997, he passed the exam and became a Professional Engineer. He joined Mitchell & Associates in 1999, where he was a partner for 26 years.
Mike’s life was marked by mischievous humor, civil engineering and land surveying, hunting with his beloved dogs, charity events, guns galore and making knives in his free time.
Mike will be remembered as a devoted husband, dad, grandpa and brother. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Kriegel; children Sarah Blakley and husband Evan, and Jessica Turner and husband Tyrel; grandchildren Maya Kriegel, Everett Blakley, Eleanor Turner and Harlan Turner; a twin brother, Dale Kriegel, and wife Kim; and extended family.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Bessie Lee Kriegel; his father, Martin John Kriegel; his mother-in-law, Fujie Painter; and his fatherin-law, Chester Harlan Painter.
