Leslie “Les” Daniell of Lampasas died on Aug. 18, 2025, at the age of 78.
Born in Sweetwater on Sept. 21, 1946, Les was the son of Doyle and Reba Daniell.
Les graduated from Stephenville High School, Class of 1965. He graduated from Tarleton State University in 1969 with a degree in history and was a member of Alpha Phi Omega fraternity.
After commissioning as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army, he served as a counterintelligence officer in Vietnam. Upon his return, he earned a master’s degree in education administration from Tarleton, where he later served twice as president of the Tarleton Alumni Association.
Les spent much of his career teaching special education in Stephenville, Lampasas, with the Texas Youth Commission and in Copperas Cove, before beginning a second career in real estate. He was known for his love of learning, his passion for Tarleton, and his many travels across the country with his wife, Mary Ann, in their RV.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Easters Daniell; his son, Jeff Daniell; brother, David Daniell and wife Linda; sister-in-law, Carol Easters, and many other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of his life will be held in Stephenville on Sept. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Cross Timbers Legacy Center, located in the Stephenville City Park. Guests are encouraged to wear purple or Tarleton attire.
Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas has charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to a scholarship fund through the Tarleton Alumni Association.
