Suspect apprehended after shooting incident

The Lampasas Police Department, with assistance from several law enforcement agencies, apprehended 20-year-old Nathan Samuel Diederich on Monday.

Diederich, of Lampasas, is the suspect in a shooting incident Sunday that left a 24-yearold man with a gunshot wound to the neck.

Diederich faces a second-degree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

On Sunday at 4:35 p.m., Lampasas police received a call regarding a shooting at 408 N. Ridge St. Officers arrived on the scene and immediately commenced life-saving measures on the 24-year-old male who had a bullet pass through his neck.

Witnesses helped identify Diederich as the alleged shooter who had fled the scene before the officers’ arrival.

LPD Sgt. Investigator Garrett Bradley said the police department learned Diederich was allegedly at a property on County Road 3071. Bradley, Sgt. Investigator Larry Wilson, and officers from the Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Parks & Wildlife arrived at that property at 11:37 a.m. Monday.

“When we got there, we knocked on the door,” Bradley said. “We spoke with grandma; she and her husband were home. She gave us consent to enter the property to look if he [Diederich] was there. She provided a statement that he had been there previously but was gone and had left an hour before we got there.”

After a search did not reveal the suspect, law enforcement officers left the property but stayed in the area, Bradley said, while waiting for Texas Department of Public Safety Special Response Teams to arrive.

“Before they arrived, we had information he was still on the property and potentially at that house,” Bradley said. “After they arrived, Lampasas County obtained a search warrant for the residence.”

Bradley said law enforcement officers kept the home surrounded to negotiate Diederich’s surrender. He eventually was apprehended peacefully at 5:53 p.m. after exiting the house.

Agencies assisting with the arrest included the LCSO, Texas Rangers, TPWD game wardens, DPS Special Response Teams, Texas Department of Criminal Justice and the Lampasas County Attorney’s Office.

Diederich faces 2 to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000 if convicted of the seconddegree felony charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
