The family of Nelda Darlene Hanson has announced her death at the age of 74 on April 28, 2025. She was a wife to Jerry Hanson, a mother to two daughters, and a loving “Mella” to five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Nelda was born on April 15, 1951 to Lloyd “Son” and Gene Warner in Lampasas, the oldest of four children.
In 1971, two years after graduating from high school, she married Jerry Hanson of Lampasas on May 29, 1971. Their first child came in 1974, Edith Joeise Woods of Sherman. Four years later, their second child was born, Jami Kay Hanson of Lampasas.
Nelda had a passion for working with children. Jerry and Nelda moved their family to Wichita Falls in 1980 where she started working as a paraprofessional at Huey Elementary School. Her love for children and God grew stronger as she became a teacher and leader at Wichita Christian School for many years.
Both Jerry and Nelda were 4-H leaders before their girls were born and continued until both children graduated from high school.
Nelda took pride in decorating her home inside and out for every holiday. Each year she decorated with many unique details, and not one year or holiday looked the same. Nelda was a crafter and spent multiple hours daily in her shop sewing, painting, building and creating anything out of everything.
Nelda was preceded in death by her parents, and brother-in-law Randy Shelburn.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Hanson; siblings Jeanie and Rob Wucher, Bud and Toi Warner, and Joy Shelburn; daughter and son-in-law Joei and Kevin Woods; daughter Jami Hanson; grandchildren Harley and Jacob Robinson, Hailey Madsen, Jerri and Kennedy Harmonson, Janna Kellum and Jeramie Kellum; and great-grandchildren Brylee Harmonson, Hudson Robinson and Elih Kellum.
