The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a former Lampasas ISD staff member who resigned from the school district after allegations surfaced of inappropriate conduct with a student.
A letter to notify LISD parents of the incident was sent from Lampasas High School Principal Paul Weinheimer and Lampasas Middle School Principal Wes Graham on Monday afternoon.
“It was brought to the attention of Lampasas ISD by local law enforcement of an investigation into allegations of inappropriate conduct involving a staff member and student,” the letter to parents said. “The staff member has resigned and will no longer be in the district.”
LISD Superintendent Dr. Chane Rascoe told the Dispatch Record he was notified of the allegation Sunday evening by School Resource Officer Sgt. Steve Sheldon.
“I immediately called the employee in question and put them on leave right then,” Rascoe said on Monday. “From there, [I] gave the employee due process rights and allowed him to have the opportunity to meet with me that morning.”
Rascoe said the employee chose to resign instead. Around noon on Monday, Rascoe said he notified the Texas Education Agency of the alleged inappropriate conduct between a staff member and a student.
The superintendent said he received little information on the specific actions that would constitute inappropriate conduct.
The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office issued a news release Wednesday, stating that it had been notified by LISD officials on Monday of the alleged inappropriate conduct between a staff member and student. The sheriff’s office reiterated that the matter is under investigation.
“A Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office investigator has been assigned to the case and is currently working with the Lampasas Police Department on the investigation,” the LCSO statement said. “No criminal charges have been filed at this time. Upon completion of the investigation, all information will be forwarded to the county attorney for review.”
