Atmos to remove natural gas in routine maintenance

Atmos Energy will conduct routine maintenance for the removal of natural gas in Lampasas this week.
In a release forwarded by the city of Lampasas, Atmos Energy officials said the energy company will work within city limits between Monday and Thursday, as well as on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
Atmos officials said the process is a “necessary, safe and standard industry practice used to extract natural gas from an isolated section of pipeline by burning it rather than letting it escape directly into the atmosphere.”
This process reduces the escape of greenhouse gas and the emission of natural gas odorant into the air.
The process will result in a controlled flame and moderate noise. Atmos Energy has alerted city staff, public officials, emergency dispatch operators and first responders.
