Mr. Borchardt

Robert Wayne Borchardt, 77, died on July 3, 2024, at his home in Lampasas.

Wayne was born on Sept. 13, 1946, in Hale County to Robert and Frances (King) Borchardt.

He married Linda Hoyt in 1973 in Dallas. They were married for 51 years.

Wayne grew up in Plainview and graduated from Plainview High School in 1965.

He attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where he received a Bachelor of Science in range management.

After graduating from Texas Tech, Wayne began work as a field specialist for the United States Department of Agriculture, where he worked for two years. He then worked as a ranch manager for Kirby Ranch in Lometa, and in Mobridge, South Dakota, for five years.

In 1976, he started a banking career in agricultural lending in Plano, Texas. He continued in the banking business for almost 30 years in Lometa, Lampasas, Burnet, Killeen and Liberty Hill.

Wayne was a member of the Lometa Lions Club, Texas Longhorn Breeders Association of America, Mountain States Stockdog Association, and Lampasas and Lometa athletic booster clubs.

He enjoyed ranching, hunting, fishing, youth sports, showing livestock, and breeding and competing in border collie sheepdog trials. He received numerous awards for show cattle and sheepdog competitions.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Linda of Lampasas; his daughter, Joanna (Wayne) Sanders of Cedar Park; son, Rob (Brandi) Borchardt of Lampasas, and daughter, Jenny (Justin) Honea of Spicewood; brother, Henry (Rachel) Borchardt of Chugwater, Wyoming; sister, Virginia (Dave) Hamilton of Lometa; grandchildren Landon Sanders, Nate Borchardt, Owen Sanders, Ethan Sanders, Addison Borchardt, Ty Borchardt, Jaxon Honea, Taylor Sanders, Kason Honea, Kamden Honea and Karson Honea; as well as cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were held at Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas on July 8. Interment followed at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa.

Memorial donations may be made to the Lampasas County Livestock Association or to an organization of one’s choice supporting youth livestock and sports activities.
