Mr. Vann

Virgil Vaughn Vann, 88, of Lampasas died at his home on Jan. 25, 2024.

Graveside services were held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas on Jan. 28. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel had charge of arrangements.

Virgil was born on April 21, 1935, in Bell County to Leslie Lee Vann and Ora Viola (Carpenter) Vann.

He had a successful career in the oil field with Gulf and Chevron. Virgil also served his country in the U.S. Army.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, farming, ranching and dominoes. He also enjoyed family reunions, family gatherings at Thanksgiving, and vacationing with his wife and grandchildren.

Virgil believed in a hard work ethic, serving others and returning things in a better condition than when one borrowed them.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo Ann (Rainwater) Vann; brothers John Vann, Lynn Vann, Dale Vann and Lee Vann; and sister Fannie Mae Hill (Louis).

Survivors include his children Leah Denise Thornton (Weldon), and Tony Dewayne Vann (Anita); sisters-in-law Faydell Vann, Lynette Vann and Marianne Scarborough; grandchildren Nick Thornton (Rosie) and Kayla Meadows (Mark); great-grandchildren Hunter Lynn Thornton, Leah Michelle Meadows, Jeremiah Vann Meadows and Dylan Rae Meadows; and step great-grandchildren Mia and Mateo Trujillo.
