Batten down the hatches! The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory for the area this afternoon.
NWS officials issued a wind advisory for Lampasas, Coryell, Hamilton and surrounding counties effective from noon to 6 p.m. Winds of 20-30 mph with gusts of up to 45 mph are expected.
“A Wind Advisory means that sustained winds of at least 20 to 30 mph are expected,” NWS meteorologists said. “Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. Boaters should use extra caution when venturing onto area lakes.
“Residents may wish to take action to secure trash cans, lawn furniture and other lightweight outdoor objects that may be blown around in the strong winds,” the advisory said.
Minor tree limb damage also is possible, officials said.
A blustery afternoon may be accompanied by thunderstorms. The NWS has issued a hazardous weather outlook effective this morning through this afternoon citing a chance of “strong to severe storms.”
