Irvin Darrell Jones, age 86, of Adamsville (currently Lampasas), died on Dec. 27, 2023.

Services will be held at Adamsville Baptist Church on Dec. 30 at 10 a.m., with visitation prior to the service. Interment will follow at Hines Chapel Cemetery in Adamsville. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Darrell was born as the second of five children to Luther D. “Luke” Jones and Lena Elizabeth (Green) Jones on Aug. 11, 1937, and he grew up in Adamsville.

He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1955, and he served in the Texas National Guard and worked for Sprint telephone company, retiring in 1994 after 30 years of service.

Darrell married Shelba Dean Miller in 1958, and they had four children: Pete, Bob, DeAnn and Kimberly.

Shelba preceded him in death in 1982, and he married Gilma Flatt in 1983. Gilma preceded him in death in 2017.

Darrell accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at a young age, and he was an example of God’s love to those who knew him. He was a longtime member of Adamsville Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon along with several other roles within the church.

His other love was music. Darrell operated the Luke Jones Music Hall in Adamsville for many years as well as traveled to hear bluegrass and gospel music.

He was preceded in death by his wives Shelba and Gilma; brothers Doug, Hiram and Allen; sistersin- law Ann, Linda and Thurma Nell; a daughterin- law, Rosemary Jones; and a great-grandson, Mason Van Zandt.

He is survived by his brother and best friend, Troy Jones of Adamsville; sons Pete Jones and wife Cindy of Navasota, and Bob Jones of Houston; daughters DeAnn Holden and husband Lynn of Temple, Kimberly and husband Jason McDonald of Lampasas, Anna Coker of Decatur, and Amy LaPoe and husband Don of Evant; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four great-greatgrandchildren.
