Mrs. Shrader

Jane Claire Field Shrader, 88, died on Nov. 11, 2023, in Burnet after a long illness.

She was born on Feb. 18, 1935, in Many, Louisiana and spent her childhood in rural Louisiana.

She met Dan Shrader while they were attending Stephen F. Austin State University. They were married July 11, 1955, and moved to Mineral Wells, where Dan worked for Texas Power & Light.

They had two daughters, Lisa and Amy, and lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area until moving to Lampasas in 1971.

Jane worked as secretary to the deputy post commander at Fort Hood for nine years. Later, she worked with her husband at their business, Hoffpauir-Shrader. The Shraders were members of First United Methodist Church.

Jane most loved being a mother and wife and will be remembered for her creative and delicious meals, especially her Italian cream torte cake. Blessed with a glorious smile, chic style and a talent for sewing, Jane was always impeccably dressed, even on family camping trips.

Jane was known for her friendly, happy nature. Jane and Dan were avid dancers and loved their home in Meadowlakes and dancing at the club on weekends.

She had an adventurous spirit that led her to many travels in Europe with her family and friends. Ireland captured her heart, and she loved her trips there.

Jane was preceded in death by her husband; her brother and sister-in-law, Sonny and Norma Field; and her brother-in-law, RM Smith.

Jane is survived by her daughters, Lisa Garanflo and husband Scott of Rockport, and Amy Davis and husband Ronny of Burnet; granddaughter, Lillie Ballejo and husband Michael; grandson, Shrader Davis and wife Jourden; great-granddaughter, Lucy Jane; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Marcus and Becky Jordan; sister-in-law, Ann Smith; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A family memorial service will be held Nov. 23 and a local memorial service at a later date. Sneed-Carnley Funeral Chapel in Lampasas has charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
