Lampasas implements emergency stage 5 water restrictions

Update: As of 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, the City of Lampasas rescinded the boil water notice for Lampasas residents. Stage 3 Drought Response is still in effect.

Due to a leak that developed Wednesday evening in the concrete transmission water line along U.S. Highway 190 that carries water from Kempner Water Supply to Lampasas customers, the city of Lampasas has issued a Stage 5 Water Emergency alert.

Under the emergency restrictions, all irrigation of landscaped areas is prohibited. Any use to wash a vehicle, motorcycle, boat or trailer is not allowed. All outdoor and non-essential uses of water also are prohibited.

The source of the leak is in a transmission line located under a metal building used for equipment storage owned by Lampasas County, according to Kempner Water Supply Corp. General Manager Bruce Sorenson

Efforts to repair the line that links KWSC water to the city of Lampasas commenced Thursday morning. Sorenson said outside contractors from Dallas assisting KWSC operators were expected to arrive this evening.

KWSC advised Lampasas customers: “Be prepared to be out of water for a significant amount of time. If you have buckets or containers, now is a good time to fill them in preparation. You can also fill your bathtubs and use that water to flush your toilets. Also, turn off your water heaters when you lose water service.”
