Michael Duane Hoozer, 70, of Lampasas died May 15, 2023.
Born in Beaumont in 1952 to Bryant Earl Hoozer and Hazel Lucille Smith, Mike was the baby of the family’s 10 children.
In his youth, Mike worked in stockyards, rode bulls in the rodeo and narrowly lost by decision in the 1971 Texas Golden Gloves Championship. The newspapers documented the crowd’s disappointment with the decision.
Mike worked for Boilermakers Local #587 until his retirement after some 30 years of service. He loved the beach, riding the back roads looking for deer and his family.
Many will remember his sense of humor and his loving heart.
Michael is survived by his brothers Earl M. Hoozer, and Bill Hoosier and wife Linda; sisters Lavon Woods, and Lanelle Jordon and husband James; son, Marshall Hoozer and wife Tahlia; five grandchildren, Gemma, Henry, Willem, Roman and Remi; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters Laura Stanley and Shirley Cooley, as well as brothers Robert Hoozer and John Hoozer.
Graveside service is set for 2 p.m. May 20 at Rock Church Cemetery in Rumley. Heritage Funeral Home in Lampasas has charge of arrangements.
