Sheriff's Department seeks suspect in burglary, shooting incidents

The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Department is seeking the suspect of a reported burglary followed by a shooting at a Kempner residence on Tuesday.
According to a LCSO statement issued by Sheriff Jess Ramos, at 3:45 p.m. that afternoon, dispatchers received a report of a burglary at a residence in the 200 block of Private Road 4805 in Kempner. The 23-year-old caller, Beyonsa Mathes, and her boyfriend, Eliyiahu Ross, 25, arrived at their mobile home to find the front door had been forced open.
“They immediately observed that one of their high-priced bulldog/pit bull dog[s] was missing along with other personal valuables,” Ramos stated.
LCSO deputies conducted an investigation and took statements at that time.
Later that night at about 11:17 p.m., the same couple called 911, stating their home had “just been shot at several times while they were inside,” Ramos said. “Mathes and Ross stated they did all they could do to avoid being shot by multiple gunshots penetrating their trailer home’s walls and windows. There were over 40 bullet holes counted that struck the residence near the front door, living room and kitchen area.”
Neither the couple nor their two other dogs were injured during what Ramos described as a “barrage of gunfire.”
The suspect reportedly sped away in a dark colored vehicle similar to the color that was described seen near the home by a neighbor at around the time of the burglary, officials said.
LCSO deputies and criminal investigators and Kempner Police responded to the home and immediately began searching for the suspect vehicle, processing the crime scene and collecting evidence, the statement said.
“It is believed that different caliber weapons were used during the assault,” Ramos said.
“After processing the crime scene, Lampasas County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigators developed stronger leads identifying the person involved in the burglary of this residence,” Ramos said.
He added that his department is “confident arrests will be made in the near future.”
This is an ongoing investigation, and updates will be provided as they are made available.
