The Lampasas Police Department says preliminary findings indicate 59-year-old Suzanne Ambuhl killed her husband, Matthew Ambuhl, 59, before taking her own life on Oct. 19.
The Department added it is aware of a Facebook post Suzanne Ambuhl made on Oct. 19 in which she claimed her husband was threatening to kill her. Lampasas PD said based on evidence during the investigation, they believe it was created and published after she shot her husband.
On Oct. 20 at about 3:58 p.m. emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the couple’s home in the 700 block of Antelope Lane after a medical-device monitoring company reported a possible emergency involving Matthew Ambuhl.
The company said data from his pacemaker indicated a possible medical event during the evening of Oct. 19, but investigators later determined the device’s monitoring data was not transmitted in real time. In fact, it was uploaded only at intervals, creating a delay before authorities were notified, Lampasas PD said.
Upon arrival, responders located Matthew Ambuhl deceased on the back porch with apparent traumatic injuries. Officers then entered the residence and found Suzanne Ambuhl deceased on the living-room floor, with a firearm in close proximity to her body. Two deceased cats were also found inside the residence, with both appearing to have gunshot wounds.
Both individuals were transported to the Southwestern Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for autopsy examinations. Although the final reports remain pending, Lampasas PD said preliminary findings show Matthew Ambuhl’s death was a homicide and Suzanne Ambuhl’s death was a suicide. Those details are consistent with the investigative conclusions developed by investigators based on evidence collected at the scene, Lampasas PD noted.
“The Lampasas Police Department understands the community's interest in this incident and recognizes the importance of providing accurate information,” the Department said in a press release. “Our goal in releasing this update is to address misinformation while maintaining the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
The incident remains under investigation. Lampasas PD is receiving assistance from the Texas Rangers on the case.
