Sgt. 1st Class (retired) Roy Frederick Smith, 76, of Copperas Cove, owner of Hydraulic Equipment Service, died on Sept. 13, 2021 at Darnall Army Medical Center after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife, Charlene Turner Smith, of Copperas Cove; a daughter, Jennifer Gray (Walter), also of Copperas Cove; a son, Andrew Smith (Lisa) of Kempner; and four grandchildren, Bryan Cox, Angelina Smith, Saydie Smith and Nathan Smith.
He also is survived by sisters Vera Jackson (Jimmy) of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Thetis Hoch of Goldsboro, North Carolina and Jeannette Sowell (George) of Pensacola, Florida; his brother, Sam Smith (Tammy) of Sumter, South Carolina; plus 18 nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sept. 26 from 2-4 p.m., with a service to start at 4 p.m. at Crawford Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.
Interment will be Sept. 27 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
