Severe weather possible all week, NWS officials said
Days after severe weather did damage in Lampasas County, the National Weather Service has forecast chances of severe thunderstorms again this afternoon.
In a hazardous weather outlook issued Tuesday morning, NWS officials said Lampasas, Hamilton Coryell, Bell, and surrounding counties may experience strong storms this afternoon.
“Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible across North and Central Texas this afternoon. A few of the storms could be strong to severe with hail and damaging winds,” the outlook read. “Additional storms will develop this evening west of the I-35 corridor. These storms will move east overnight. Some storms may be severe with large hail and damaging winds. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out. Heavy rain may also cause flooding in some areas.”
Chances of severe weather will continue throughout the week and into the weekend.
“Periodic chances for showers and thunderstorms will persist Wednesday through the weekend. Severe weather will be possible at times. Multiple rounds of heavy rainfall may reinvigorate flooding issues,” officials said.
Meteorologists advise residents to leave their cell phones nearby overnight to receive weather warnings, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.
Storm activity in Central Texas late last week produced at least one confirmed tornado, an EF-2 class tornado in Temple that had maximum windspeeds of 120 miles per hour.
