LIFE IN PRISON

Kempner man found guilty of murdering father in 2023

Carson Myer Nena of Kempner received a sentence of life in prison after he was found guilty of murder in 27th District Court proceedings. Action came Sept. 4 in the Lampasas County Courthouse with Judge Debbie Garrett presiding.

Special investigator/ former Lampasas District Attorney John Greenwood prosecuted the case on behalf of the state. Gary Prust served as the defense attorney. On Sept. 13, 2023, a Lampasas County grand jury indicted the 28-yearold Nena on one charge of capital murder and one charge of aggravated assault of a family member causing serious bodily injury, after law enforcement officials said Nena bludgeoned both his father and stepmother with a pool cue on July 14, 2023.

According to court documents, Nena intentionally caused the death of his father, 61-year-old Myer Nena, “by striking him about the head and face, and the defendant was in the course of committing or attempting to commit the offense of robbery of Myer Nena, and in the course of committing or attempting to commit the offense of burglary of a building owned by Myer Nena.”

The father succumbed to his injuries. His wife, Gisela Nena, survived.

Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office investigated the case. Authorities reported that Gisela Nena called officers to her home in the 500 block of Apache Street in Kempner about 9:30 a.m. July 14 because her stepson was “kicking at her door and trying to gain entry.” Myer Nena was not at home at the time.

LCSO deputies met with Gisela Nena and reviewed video on a home camera system that showed Carson Nena had been walking outside the residence holding what appeared to be a pool cue. Deputies searched the immediate area but were unable to locate Nena that morning.

Later in the day, LCSO officers received an emergency call about a man lying on the ground at the Apache Street residence. When they arrived on the scene, deputies found Myer Nena on the ground with severe injuries to his face and head, and Gisela Nena was found inside the home with similar injuries.

The son was taken into custody that night. Two days later, Myer Nena died at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center.

Bond was set at $250,000 on the capital murder charge and also on the aggravated assault charge. Carson Nena has been in custody since the incident.

Last month, on Aug. 14, the District Court set a Sept. 4 status hearing for the case.

The defendant last week pleaded guilty to a lesser offense of murder and was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison. Nena waived his right to appeal. He was given 1,148 days’ credit toward the sentence.

Nena also entered a plea of guilty to the aggravated assault charge, and following the plea agreement the court found him guilty and sentenced Nena to life, to run concurrently with the previous charge.
