KWSC issues boil water notice

The Kempner Water Supply Corporation has issued a boil water notice for county residents west of Kempner.
As of Tuesday at noon, residents north of the City of Kempner, northwest of the city, southwest of the city and west of the city are recommended to boil water prior to use. This is not a system-wide notice, officials said.
“Due to difficulty in maintaining chlorine residuals, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the Kempner Water Supply Corporation, 1410028, public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions),” KWSC said in a statement.
“To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes,” officials said. “In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.”
The areas affected include the following: North of the city of Kempner, northwest of the city of Kempner, southwest of the city of Kempner, and west of the city of Kempner. Any customers off US 183, US190, FM 1715, FM 3170, FM 580, FM 2527, FM 1690, County Road 3220, CR 3270, CR 3300, Lutheran Church Rd and North FM 116.
When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the KWSC officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes. Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, KWSC will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice.
Water users are encouraged to share this information with all others who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). This can be done by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.
