Within 10 months, the former county jail on East Fourth Street went from being a downtown landmark to a non-existent structure.
The jail was built in 1972 to replace an outdated structure at the same site that dated to 1883 and had been condemned by the state health department.
Cost of the initial construction was $111,000, according to previous Dispatch Record reports.
