Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States, died Sunday at the age of 100 in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. Elected to a single term in 1976, Carter was the most recent Democrat to win Lampasas County and Texas in a presidential race.
Carter also is remembered for serving in the United States Navy, as governor of Georgia, and for his background in peanut farming.
