Council approves Hostess House fees

The Lampasas City Council approved the first reading of an ordinance amending the fee schedule for use of city parks and recreation facilities, specifically the Hostess House.

Council members and city staff had discussions over the rental of both floors of the Hostess House to different parties on the same date. Interim City Manager Erin Harrison and City Secretary Kayleigh Stanley said there are some logistical problems in trying to rent both sections of the building, while Mayor Pro Tem Cathy Kuehne said she thinks the city needs to be able to rent the whole building.

Kuehne used the example of class reunions during Spring Ho as an occasion that could allow different parties to rent the facility simultaneously.

Councilman Eric Hernandez said the council needed to approve the first reading of the fee schedule in order to start renting out the Hostess House by the end of the month. The council subsequently voted unanimously to approve the schedule, with the idea that changes could be made in the future if necessary.

Also during the meeting, the council unanimously approved the awarding of a bid from Texas Multi-Chem in the amount of $49,620 for repairs to the Turner Field sports complex after damages occurred during July flooding.

After coming out of executive session, the council approved two different motions, according to Stanley.

First, the council moved to terminate both the lease-to-purchase agreement and an economic development agreement with Lampasas Trucking and Redi-Mix located at 1550 North U.S. Highway 281. The council directed the city manager to seek damages and reimbursements for the economic development incentives, professional fees and remediation expenses associated with the project, as directed in Councilman Edward Gold’s motion.

In a second motion, the council agreed to remove the “acting finance director” title from Harrison and to appoint her the new finance director for the city of Lampasas.

Harrison is still serving as interim city manager until a new person takes the position full time, which could happen by next month.

The council was scheduled to hold interviews with city manager candidates earlier this week.

In other business, the council received the quarterly report from the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center. Mayor Herb Pearce read a resolution proclaiming March 2026 as Night Sky Awareness Month. And Ricky Haynie was recognized for his 10 years of work at the golf course.

Prior to the meeting, the City Council held a joint discussion with the Kempner Water Supply Corp. directors that lasted approximately an hour and a half. Further details of that portion of the council meeting will be available in Tuesday’s edition of the Dispatch Record.
