JEFF LOWE | DISPATCH RECORD Makenzie Munoz makes a play at the net during the Badgers’ non-district match Friday against Copperas Cove. JEFF LOWE | DISPATCH RECORD The Badgers came through in the close matches on Friday, reversing what was a major factor in last Tuesday’s loss.

Lampasas won nine of 12 tie-breakers in a 15-4 team tennis win over Copperas Cove. Last Tuesday against Fredericksburg, the Badgers lost six of seven tiebreakers and were defeated in the team score.

Friday’s win at home gives the Badgers an 8-3 record as the area playoffs approach this week.

“This was a good even, competitive night of practice,” Lampasas head coach Kenneth Peiser said. “Getting us ready for the playoffs [this week] is our main goal.”

Peiser announced on Wednesday that his team will face Madisonville on Thursday at 2 p.m. in the area playoffs. Waco Regional Tennis Center will host the match.

Madisonville defeated Gatesville 10-9 in bi-district, while Lampasas had a bye in the first round.

Peiser said he plans to follow the same line-up as he did on Friday, with the following players in the No. 1 matches.

Garrett McGuire/Brady Carroll – boys’ doubles

Nora Lawson/Cassidy Gillis – girls’ doubles

Megan Dwamena – girls’ singles

McGuire – boys’ doubles

Kodi Green/Chad Brewster – mixed doubles

Lawson has the highest winning percentage on the team, at 18-1 this season. Her single-season record is one of the best in school history, although the doubles team of Eric White and Justin McGehee went 32-0 in the spring season in the early 2000s.

“I think we’re pretty prepared,” Lawson said, when asked about the upcoming playoff match.

Lampasas had three recent matches canceled due to rain, but Lawson believes the team has recovered well.

“I think we’re getting back into it already,” she said on Friday.

Lawson is a defending state qualifier and has made multiple trips to the postseason.

Her main goal is to “play a lot more aggressive this year,” she said.
