The work over the weekend was done by a crew from Priefert Ranch & Rodeo, along with former City Council member Chris Harrison and his company, Harrison Construction. Workers installed metal panels, gates, chutes and alleys for a 130-foot-wide-by- 281-foot long arena.

The arena sits below the back parking area at the park, with a line of trees to the south and east of it. Chutes and alleys are on the east side of the arena, and stands for spectators will be on the west side.

The uncovered arena will provide a home for the Lampasas Riding Club, which will move from its current site at the business park on U.S. Highway 183 South. The arena also could host a variety of equestrian and rodeo events.

In February, the Lampasas City Council approved the purchase of the panels and other arena equipment from Priefert for about $107,000.

The city also plans to extend water and electricity to the arena site. City workers installed an electricity pad, which is near the new sports facilities crew shop at the FM 580 West park, and the city will install a water line soon.

Harrison Construction donated the dirt work to prepare the arena site, and Harrison said his company has been working at the park for about three weeks.
