Mrs. Bessent

Wanda Jean Bessent, 88, died Sept. 9, 2017 in Lampasas.

The family is honoring her request to be cremated, and a private family service will be held at a later date. Sneed Funeral Chapel has charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bessent was born Oct. 25, 1928 in the Sloan Community of San Saba County to George Barrom and Thelma Langham Yarbrough. As the oldest of eight children, she worked to help her dad on the Sloan Sisters Ranch where they lived.

When she was in her 30s, Mrs. Bessent decided to go to nursing school and graduated in 1963. She worked in this field until she was in her 70s, retiring from Sid Peterson Memorial Hospital in Kerrville.

She suffered a stroke in 2007, and her health began to deteriorate.

Mrs. Bessent enjoyed doing whatever she could to help her children. She also loved to fish and hunt, and went on several hunting trips to Colorado where her family got to enjoy her camp cooking.

She is survived by two sons, Ronnie and wife Waunice of Lometa, and Keith and wife Christine of San Saba; two daughters, Nita Harris and husband John of Nix, and Vicky Geisler and husband Roger of Pana, Illinois; six grandsons and one granddaughter; two greatgrandsons; and one brother and three sisters.

She was preceded in death by a son, one grandson, a sister and by two brothers.
