DISTRICT COURT

Lampasas County 27th District Court convened last week with Judge John Gauntt presiding over the day’s hearings.

A waiver of arraignment was filed for defendant Betty Jean Kidd, 44, of Lampasas. She entered a plea and was found guilty of possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram. Ms. Kidd was sentenced to three years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, with credit for time served, and ordered to pay $284 in court costs plus attorney fees.

Probation was revoked for Justin Colter Leon Tyra, 26, of Killeen. He was given 12 months in state jail for theft of a firearm, with credit for time served. In addition, he is to pay court costs of $279 plus attorney fees.

And on a charge of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance over 1 gram and less than 4 grams, Tyra was found guilty and sentenced to four years in the TDCJ, with credit for time served. He must pay $284 in court costs associated with that charge and attorney fees.

In other action last week, 38-year-old Melinda Caroline Rhea of San Saba was assessed three years’ deferred adjudication probation and a $500 fine for possession of a controlled substance over 1 gram and less than 4 grams. She also must pay attorney fees as well as $334 in court costs.

Walter Richard Brown, 44, of Killeen, entered a plea on two separate charges of possession of a controlled substance over 1 gram and less than 4 grams, but the findings were withheld. Brown had his plea hearings reset for Monday. He also has a plea hearing Monday on a charge of sex offender’s duty to register life/annually.

Bond was found insufficient for Sabrina Jo Snyder, 37, of Lometa, and capias warrants were issued. She faces two charges of forgery of a financial instrument-elderly, one charge of possession of a controlled substance over 1 gram and less than 4 grams, one charge of fraudulent use/possession of identifying information, and one charge of bail jumping and failure to appear-felony.

Richard Dale Allen, 33, of Troy failed to appear for his court hearing last week, and a capias warrant was to be issued for him. Allen is charged with possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram.

Sunny Robert Zavala, 32, of San Antonio also failed to appear for his court date on a charge of unauthorized use of a vehicle. A capias warrant was to be issued for the defendant.

Jury announcements were held last week. The following were announced ready for trial: Willie Earl Nix, 44, of Lampasas, charged with assault of a family/household member with a previous conviction. Dixon Dewayne Dewald, 28, of Evant, charged with assault of a family/household member – impede breath/circulation. Sabrina Charlene Lindsey, 32, of Lampasas, charged with prohibited weapon.

James Howard Smith, 48, of Lampasas filed a waiver of arraignment, and he has a pretrial hearing scheduled Aug. 4 on a charge of credit card or debit card abuse. He also faces a charge of possession

of a controlled substance over 1 gram and less than 4 grams. A plea hearing is yet to be scheduled for that charge.

Stacey Dawne Aleman, 34, of Lampasas has plea hearings set for Aug. 11, along with presentence investigations. She is charged with forgery of a government instrument/money/ securities and with possession of a controlled substance less than 1 gram.

And a waiver of arraignment was filed for 35-year-old Donna Nicole Fullick on her charge of driving while intoxicated. A motion hearing is scheduled for Aug. 18 on that charge. The Austin woman also has a motion hearing the same date on a charge of evading arrest/ detention with a vehicle, with a jury trial slated for Sept. 25.

Jury trials are on the court docket for Aug. 21 for the following individuals: Jonathan Andrew Mullins, 20, of Greenville, Virginia, charged with assault of a family/ household member – impede breath/circulation. Bridget Marie Owens, 40, of Lometa, charged with misappropriation of fiduciary/ financial property over $2,500 and less than $30,000. A jury trial is set Sept. 25 for Bryce Taylor Brandon, 17, of Lampasas, charged with aggravated assault causes serious bodily injury. Antonio Torres, 47, of Lampasas is scheduled for jury trial on Sept. 25. He faces a charge of indecency with a child-sexual contact. And a jury trial for Yvonne Sanchez, 40, of Lampasas was moved to Oct. 23 on her charge of aggravated assault causes serious bodily injury.
