Mrs. Hankal

Virginia Nell Hankal, 80, of Lampasas died March 10, 2017 in a Hewitt nursing facility.

The funeral and visitation were held March 14 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Hankal was born Feb. 27, 1937 in Florida, the daughter of Ivar Bredo Christensen and Nell Francis (Rowland) Christensen.

She graduated from Weslaco High School and from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Education degree.

She married William Ernest “Bill” Hankal on July 26, 1958 in Weslaco.

Mrs. Hankal taught public school for many years in Lampasas. Sophomore English was her specialty. She retired from teaching in 2001.

She enjoyed attending sporting events involving her children and any Baylor team.

Mrs. Hankal was a member of the Pierian Club and a discussion leader for BSF in Temple. She also was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lampasas and attended church in Adamsville.

Survivors are her husband of Lampasas; two sons, Galen Hankal of Lampasas, and Scott Hankal and wife Leigh of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter, Donnis Smith and husband Russell of Waco; a brother, Ivar Bredo Christensen II of Humble; grandchildren, Virginia Hair, Galen Hankal Jr., Audrey Mitchell, Anna Hankal, Libby Hankal, Mattie Grace Hankal and Ian Smith; and greatgrandchildren, Charity, Mallory and Jeremiah Hair, and Collin and Liam Hankal.

Memorials may be sent to Adamsville Presbyterian Church.
