CATTLE AUCTION

The report from the March 15 Lampasas Cattle Auction follows.

Cattle and calves: Estimated receipts 401, compared to 363 last sale and 469 at this time last year.

Compared to last sale, feeder steers and heifers were steady, with some instances $2 higher. Slaughter cows and slaughter bulls were steady.

Feeder cattle accounted for 83 percent. Slaughter cows and bulls accounted for 17 percent.

Average price and top price follow.

Steers: 200-300 lbs., $1.52-$2.15 lb.; 300-400 lbs., $1.54-$1.90 lb.; 400-500 lbs., $1.46-$1.70 lb.; 500-600 lbs., $1.43-$1.59 lb.; 600-700 lbs., $1.28-$1.53 lb.; 700-800 lbs., $1.12-$1.40 lb.

Heifers: 200-300 lbs., no test; 300-400 lbs., $1.29-$1.51 lb.; 400-500 lbs., $1.35-$1.49 lb.; 500-600 lbs., $1.28-$1.57 lb.; 600-700 lbs., $1.16-$1.49 lb; 700-800 lbs., $0.97-$1.12 lb.

Slaughter cows: Under 800 lbs., no test; 800-1,100 lbs., $0.40-$0.54 lb.; 1,100- 1,300 lbs., $0.55-$0.75 lb.

Slaughter bulls: 1,000- 1,300 lbs., no test; 1,300-2,100 lbs., $0.90-$0.96 lb.

Bred replacement cows: baby tooth to 5-year-old, $1,575-$2,175 per head; solid mouth, no test.
