BURN BAN IN EFFECT
A countywide ban on outdoor burning is in effect. The ban applies to areas outside incorporated city limits.
Despite the ban, people are allowed to cook in barbecue pits and to burn household trash generated from the property on which the fire takes place. Household trash must be burned in a barrel with a metal screen on top, and the burn must be attended by a person at least 16 years old who has access to a telephone.
An additional exemption to the ban allows people to burn brush and vegetative waste generated from the property on which the fire occurs. Special conditions apply, and those who plan to burn must turn in a form at least 24 hours before starting a fire. For details, contact the county judge’s office at 512-556-8271.
A violation of the burn ban is a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine not to exceed $500.
