Accidental gunshot wound reported

A Lampasas man was taken by ambulance to Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple on Friday with an accidental gunshot wound to the chest.

The Lampasas County Sheriff’s Office received a call at 8:14 a.m. about the shooting, which occurred near the intersection of CR 4330 and CR 4358, Sheriff David Whitis said.

Whitis said the victim, 36-year-old Cristen Faught, was shot in the chest when a handgun accidentally discharged. The sheriff said he is not sure why the gun fired, but he said the victim was the only person involved.

“It was very obviously accidental,” Whitis said.

Faught’s girlfriend and some neighbors helped the gunshot victim and took him to Rollins Brook Community Hospital by private vehicle, Whitis said.

Plans for a medical flight to Scott & White were canceled, the sheriff added, and an ambulance later took the man to the Temple hospital.
