PHOTO BY JEFF LOWE The banks of Sulphur Creek in W.M. Brook Park were lined with hundreds of young fishermen Wednesday morning for the annual Spring Ho Kiddie Fishing Derby.

Spring Ho officials estimated a total turnout of around 250 anglers, all within the ages of 5-12.

The two-hour fishing event attracted kids from Lampasas as well as several other communities.

The derby rules state that all participants must use worms as bait and fish only with Spring Ho-sanctioned cane poles.

Most of the fish caught at the event were perch, although McKenna Gilmore snagged a 13 ½-inch goldfish near the Old Chestnut Street Bridge. The goldfish was the longest fish recorded in the contest.
