Lampasas River group to meet

The Lampasas River Watershed Protection Plan is in its final stages of internal review and is slated to be released Friday for public comment.

Two meetings are scheduled to gather public comment about the plan -- a series of voluntary measures stakeholders have suggested to protect water quality.

The first meeting will be Jan. 15 at the Lampasas County Farm Bureau building. Another session is set for Jan. 17 at the city of Killeen Solid Waste Building. Both meetings will start at 6 p.m.

In addition, written comments about the watershed protection plan will be accepted for 30 days after the release date. More information will be available with the release of the plan in January.

The Lampasas River Watershed Partnership recently received a new grant from the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board titled “Facilitation of the Lampasas River Watershed Protection Plan.” The two-year grant includes support and facilitation of watershed plan implementation and outreach, education and community support.

The conclusion of watershed protection plan development will allow implementation of the programs and management practices the partnership has recommended.
