Lometa boys place first, girls second at district

The Lometa boys' track team tied for first place at last week’s district meet, while the Lometa girls placed second.

In the boys’ competition, Brandon Lilly earned second in the 100m dash, running in 11.82 seconds. In the 200m dash, Lilly placed fourth with a time of 24.59 seconds.

In the 800m and 1,600m runs, Jose Acevedo took second, finishing the races in 2:23.58 and 5:09.94, respectively.

R.J. Haggard placed second in the 110m hurdles with his time of 20.02 seconds. Meanwhile, Noe Salinas posted the winning time in the 300m hurdles at 46.27 seconds.

The boys’ 4x100m relay team – consisting of Salinas, Acevedo, Lilly and Justus Alaniz – captured third place, running in 47.58 seconds. The 4x400m relay team – with runners Dylan Sims, Marcus Griffith, Haggard and Eric Nichols – also finished third, running in 4:03.86.

In the high jump, David Towerton and Alaniz placed third and fifth, respectively, with their jumps of 5’4” and 5’2.5”.

Salinas took fifth in the long jump with a leap of 17’7.25”.

Acevedo won the triple jump, jumping 37’4.5”, while Haggard placed fifth at 34’4”.

Gunner Bradley captured first place in the shot put, throwing 37’3”, while Jesus Griffith placed second in the discus with his throw of 104’11”.

In the girls’ competition, Esmeralda Jaso and Jessica Moore placed third and sixth, respectively, in the 200m dash, finishing in 27.74 seconds and 29.60 seconds.

Chloe Herrera took sixth in the 800m run with her time of 2:55.12. She also earned fourth in the 1,600m event, which she ran in 7:05.70.

The 4x100m relay team – composed of Alexis West, Jaso, Mikhaila Barnett and Skyla Thompson – came in third, running in 55.59 seconds. Meanwhile, the 4x200m relay team – with runners West, Jaso, Barnett and Jessica Moore – won the event, finishing in 2:00.06. The 4x400m relay team featuring West, Jaso, Chloe Griffith and Barnett also won the event, running in 4:56.81.

In the high jump, Barnett and Jaso placed third and sixth, respectively, with their jumps of 4’8.25” and 4’6”. And Jaso captured third in the long jump at 14’2.75”. In the triple jump, Moore and Barnett placed second (30’9.5”) and third (30’4”), respectively.

Tricia Williams won both the shot put and the discus events, throwing 39’2” and 121’10.5”, respectively.
