Rodeo events added to this year's jubilee schedule

The 42nd annual Lometa Lions Club's Diamondback Jubilee March 31 will feature some new events coupled with festival-goers' favorites.

In addition to a carnival, arts and crafts booths, food vendors, a chili cook-off, music and lots of food, this year's event will offer a Diamondback Rodeo, Rattler Team Roping and a Miss Diamondback Rodeo Queen Contest.

The open jackpot rodeo is March 30 beginning at 7:30 p.m. with rodeo contractor Tommy Green.

Events include steer saddling, ladies' barrel race, ladies' breakaway roping, ranch bronc riding, tie-down roping, bareback riding and bull riding.

Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for children 7-17, and free for those under 6.

Concessions will be available.

For contest entry information, contact Regina Ritter at (325) 451-7666 on March 26 from 5-10 p.m.

The rodeo queen contest entry deadline is Saturday.

Contestants must be a Lampasas County resident between 14-18 years old.

Contestants will be judged on horsemanship skills, rodeo ticket sales and interview.

The winner will receive a belt buckle and a $250 scholarship. For entry information, contact Terri Harris at 734-2818.

Also new this year is the Lometa Lions Club's Rattler Team Roping March 31. Books open at 1 p.m., and roping begins at 2:30 p.m.

The event will feature a #10 roping and a #13 slide roping.

Tickets for the Cow Patty Plop March 31 at noon are $5 each and may be purchased on event day. In addition, Cow Patty Plop and rodeo tickets are on sale at the chamber of commerce, Hodges & Sargent Pharmacy, Cattles Pharmacy, Ace Hardware and Cutter's Western Wear.

In Lometa, tickets are on sale at Lometa Trading Post, Branding Iron Cafe and DH Land Co.
