Hornets' season-ending loss to Abbott earns mention in magazine
The Lometa football team’s seasonending 118-100 loss to Abbott has been selected as the six-man game of the year by Dave Campbell’s “Texas Football” magazine.
“This regional clash wasn’t for the faint of heart, as both offenses bludgeoned the opposing defense with near unstoppable gameplans,” Campbell said. “Abbott went to the ground, and with great effect the Panthers rushed for a ridiculous 722 yards and scored on every single one of their drives, and Tyler Russell ran for 573 yards and 10 touchdowns."
Continued the magazine: “Lometa, on the other hand, went to the air; QB Dylan Straley threw for 512 yards and 10 touchdowns, three of which went to Shane Stone.
“But the difference in the game may have come right at the halftime whistle, when Lometa, threatening at the Abbott goal line, threw an interception on fourth down that ended the second quarter and kept the Panthers in front.”
Lometa finished the season with an 8-4 record.
