Officer installation planned at DAR quarterly meeting

The Llano Uplift Chapter of National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution held its quarterly meeting Jan. 27 at the River City Grille.

Kim Zapalac of Kyle, the featured speaker, discussed women’s health issues.

Mrs. Zapalac is the Texas State DAR vice chairman of women’s issues – health.

Also at the meeting, Heather McClelland of San Antonio was elected the chapter’s outstanding junior member, and the chapter elected officers for the 2012-2014 term of office.

Those to be installed at the April 28 meeting are regent, Linda Cole of Spicewood; vice regent, Georgi Brochstein of Marble Falls; registrar, Mary Berlin of Marble Falls; secretary, Peggy Munson of Fredericksburg; treasurer, Carolyn Lee of Horseshoe Bay; chaplain, Carole Buchanan of Buchanan Dam; librarian, Oneva Clifton of Blanco County; and historian, Joy Shirley of Burnet.

At this most recent meeting, 22 new members were approved, which brings the number of women working on completing membership applications to 41.

Membership is open to any woman over the age of 18 who can prove her lineage to a patriot who served the country during the Revolutionary War.

A prospective members workshop is March 31 at the Kingsland Library from 1-3:30 p.m. Reservations are required. Anyone interested should contact chapter membership chairman Ms. Brochstein at (830) 798-9685.
