Former Kempner postmaster dies Jan. 31

Former Kempner and Oakalla postmaster Dorothy Ellen Hunt Reavis. 81, died Jan. 31, 2012, at Heart Hospital of Austin.

Graveside services are Feb. 4 at 11 a.m. at Tobey Cemetery at Oakalla.

Mrs. Reavis was born June 16, 1930, in Belton, to John Thomas and Dixie Zell Ray Hunt.

She was married to Leonard Barton Reavis.

Mrs. Reavis was confirmed as Kempner postmaster in April 1974. Prior to that, she served as Oakalla postmaster for 17 years.

Mrs. Reavis attended Central Texas College and was active in the Oakalla community where she helped raise funds for the Oakalla Community Center.

Mrs. Reavis, in addition to being postmaster, was a rancher.

She was a life member of Maxdale Baptist Church, and was an avid quilter and artist. She enjoyed painting.

Survivors include a daughter, Sherrie Broyles, and husband, Paul Henry, of Cherokee; a daughterin-law, Debra Ann Reavis of Oakalla; a sister, Sis Beck of Killeen; a sister-in-law, Joann Reavis of Oakalla; a brotherin law, Bobby Reavis of Killeen; five grandchildren, John Thomas Reavis, Kyle Allan Reavis, Megan Ann Reavis, Alex Broyles and Walt Broyles; five great-grandchildren, Chase Maddox, Brenlea Broyles, Laney Casey, Kimbrea Broyles and Cealey Broyles; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; by a son, Eugene Barton Reavis; and by a brother, John Ray Hunt.

Pallbearers are J.T. Reavis, Kyle Reavis, Alex Broyles, Walt Broyles, Mike Johnson and Larry Johnson.

Memorials may be made to Tobey Cemetery in care of Bobby Reavis, 415 Orchid St., Killeen, TX 76542, or Oakalla Community Center.

Visitation is Feb. 3 from 6-8 p.m. at Sheppard Funeral Home in Copperas Cove, which has charge of arrangements.
