Motorcyclist injured in Evant accident
A Copperas Cove man was injured last Friday when his motorcycle and a vehicle collided in Evant. The accident occurred about 100 yards from the Coryell County line.
Trooper II Kyle Matthews of Hamilton received a call about the accident at 10:10 a.m.
Matthews gave this account. Edward Walkos was northbound on U.S. Highway 281 on a 2003 Suzuki motorcycle and exited toward the east onto Highway 84.
He turned left off an entrance ramp onto Memory Lane, to go back onto U.S. 281. The motorcyclist stopped but failed to yield the right of way and pulled out in front of an eastbound 1987 Ford Crown Victoria driven by Issac Rivera of Waco.
The automobile struck the left side of the motorcycle in the intersection. Two other motorcyclists who were with Walkos but driving behind him were uninjured.
Walkos, who sustained injuries to his head and left leg, was transported by a STAT Air helicopter to Temple's Scott & White Memorial Hospital.
The motorcycle was totaled, and the Crown Victoria had to be transported by a wrecker from the scene.
Trooper David Poston from Coryell County assisted at the accident location, as did Chief Deputy Lynn Pearce of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. The Evant Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the emergency call.
