Oakalla plans restoration project
The Oakalla Community Center Project Committee met Aug. 30 at the center to continue plans to make badly needed repairs to the Oakalla school building, constructed in 1944. The school closed in 1959.
Linda Rogers, project chairman, led the meeting.
The Playground Committee made recommendations. The project group decided to remove the slide and repair the merry-goround. A $1,000 donation for the playground was received from the Christian Home Educators Support System.
Nancy Reavis is preparing a letter to send all who attended events at the center. The group voted to reimburse her for supplies and postage.
The building and roof appear to be structurally sound, it was reported, but things that need attention are termite control, some roof repairs and electricity.
Officers for the group are James Smith, president; Linda Rogers, vice president; Larry Reavis, secretary; Laquetta Smith, treasurer; Kay Wiley, director; Nancy Reavis, bylaws chairman.
Donations are tax-deductible. Checks should be made payable to Oakalla Community Center; a designation may be noted at the bottom of the check. Mail checks to treasurer Laquetta Smith, 27150 FM 963, Oakalla, TX 78608.
The project committee will meet next on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
