Class of '46 celebrates reunion

The Lampasas High School Class of 1946 met Aug. 28 at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church Parish House for its annual reunion.

Before a potluck lunch was served, Bobbye Alexander Behlau welcomed her classmates and guests. Adeline Thornal Meredith gave a prayer of thanksgiving for the occasion.

After lunch, Mrs. Behlau thanked Fay Rathman Mullins, Elbertine Lively Ware, and Sherwood and Carolyn Yancy who served on the planning committee, and Fay Smart Crooks who registered guests.

Roll was called, and members responded by telling their latest activities. Letters were read from Waylon Carroll, Wanda Lively Cothron, Worth Sheldon and Fannie Mae Vann Hill who were unable to attend. Those present included Jack Nobles, Gilbert Meredith, Alice Robinett Turner, Bobbie Dellis Joseph, Nita V. Smith White, Edna Baker Bleimeyer, Hula and Maurice Whitis, and Charles Lancaster.

Deceased classmates’ names were called, and members shared their memories of them.

Other graduates were introduced: Daphne Harris Blanton from the Class of 1937; Gladys Thornal Owens, Class of 1944; Jean Russell Phillips, Class of 1945; and Carl McMillan, Class of 1949. Guests Mildred McMillan, Joe Behlau, Sue Lancaster and Kelli Beatty were welcomed.

Prizes were awarded to Edna Bleimeyer for traveling the greatest distance; to Daphne Blanton for being the oldest graduate present; to Carl McMillan, the youngest present; to Hula and Maurice Whitis for being the longest married; to Charles Lancaster for taking the least medication; and to Fay Mullins for volunteering the most hours.

The group decided to meet at the same time and place in 2011.
