Mr. Finnell
A memorial service for Charles L. Finnell will be held at Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Finnell, 81, of San Antonio died Aug. 26, 2010, in a San Antonio nursing home.
He was born Nov. 19, 1928, in Lampasas, the eighth child of the late Tom and Jannie Finnell. Seven brothers and sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Finnell joined New Hope Baptist Church at an early age under the pastorship of the Rev. B.B. Johnson.
He graduated from Lampasas High School, later became a deputy sheriff in Fort Worth and retired after many years.
Mr. Finnell married Delores, and they had four children. Two children were born from a second marriage.
He later joined Mt. Zion First Baptist Church under the Rev. C.W. Black in San Antonio and loved being an usher there until his health failed.
A true believer in family, Mr. Finnell enjoyed reminiscing about his children.
His survivors include children Kenneth Finnell, Charles Finnell Jr. and Connie Finnell, all of Fort Worth, and Jacqueline Finnell of Houston, Kelly and Tony Finnell of Los Angeles; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Mildred E. Wilson and Shirley A. Knotts, both of San Antonio.
A host of nieces and nephews, a sister-in-law, Susie, and an adopted son, Randy Sims, also survive him.
