Lometa and Woodson converged at Zephyr Saturday afternoon to play their season-opening game, but things quickly got out of control as the Hornets scored 28 firstquarter points en route to an 82-37 victory.

Averaging almost 19 yards per play from scrimmage, Lometa forced the officials to end the contest via mercy rule with 8:26 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Although the number of players are obviously smaller in six-man football, it is rare that a game is dominated by one player like Lometa’s Dalton Parsons did against Woodson.

The senior quarterback accounted for 443 of the team’s 505 yards of offense and was involved in scoring 62 of the Hornet’s 82 points in the game.

He also managed to catch 16-yard completion and kick an extra point.

As a kicker, Parsons delivered 14 kickoffs, including five for touchbacks.

Defensively, he recorded five tackles and returned an interception 65 yards for a touchdown.

As a team, Woodson could not compete with the one-man show.

The Cowboys totaled just 375 yards of offense as they were shut down in the second half.

After jumping out to a 28-12 lead in the first quarter, Lometa added 30 more points to their total in the second quarter, but Woodson produced its best offensive quarter before halftime and went into the break trailing 58-31.

The 27-point gap quickly widened in the second half, however, as the Hornets went on a 18-6 run in the third quarter while allowing Woodson its final touchdown of the afternoon.

Lometa’s defense sacked Woodson’s quarterback six times for a loss of 45 yards. James Reyna was responsible for four of the sacks and junior defensive end Brandon Lilly picked up the other two. Lilly also led the team in tackles with nine and had the Hornets’ lone fumble recovery.

Other defensive standouts included Cody Hand and Chris Scarborough. Hand finished with eight tackles and scored on an interception return of 40 yards. Scarborough, a sophomore, had eight tackles, while Colt Maldonado, Hector Rivera and Parsons each followed with five tackles apiece.

Rivera and Maldonado were also on the receiving end of several of Parsons’ passes. Maldonado scored twice as he hauled in three catches for a team-high 129 yards. Rivera had three receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown.

Lilly and Edgar Castruita also caught two touchdowns.

Complementing Parsons at the quarterback position was junior Dylan Straley, who finished the game with 98 yards on 6-of-12 passing and three touchdowns.

The Hornets return to the field tonight for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff at Brookesmith.

The Mustangs come into the game with an 0-1 record after losing to Comanche Paradigm Charter 47-19 last week.
