Tax break for vets
2010-08-31 / Letters
I read Jack Clark’s Aug. 13 comments as well as Mr. Hall’s Aug. 17 letter to the editor and Mr. Clark’s Aug. 24 letter in the Lampasas Dispatch Record.
Mr. Clark mentioned a loss of $23 million in tax revenue due to the disabled veterans’ tax break. This amounts to $4,600 for each of 5,000 veterans who are 100 percent disabled, or $2,300 for each of 10,000 disabled veterans, even $1,150 for each of 20,000 vets. I was unaware we had that many vets in the whole of Lampasas city and county paying that amount of taxes. If my figures are anywhere near right, about half the county and city must be DAVs.
If this letter is confusing to anyone or makes anyone mad, I apologize. This is just the way I see it.
